The VELUX EHF Champions League 2016/17 tipped off last night in Turkey, as the hosts Besiktas Mogaz HT beat Portuguese side ABC/UMinho 33-31.
ABC, returning to the games pinnacle competition for the first time in 16 years, gave the hosts a tough night, but in the end lost out by two goals.
It was end-to-end stuff from both sides throughout, but Besiktas came out the stronger of the two sides after half-time and built up a seven goal lead. ABC did manage to get back in the game late on only for the hosts to dig out the result in the end.
Ramazan Done was top scorer for Besiktas with one goals, while Diogo Branquinho, Hugo Rocha and Pedro Spinola top scored for ABC with six goals each.
