Strasbourg will take a 2-0 lead into game 3 of the LNB playoff final on Thursday night after a 73-61 win over Lyon-Villeurbanne (ASVEL) last night.
In their fourth LNB Finals in four years, the Vincent Collet led Strasbourg finally look like they will claim the trophy. While they are probably the best team in France, they always seem to find a way to miss out on the big silverware. Only six weeks ago they lost the Eurocup final to Galatasary, after winning the 1st leg 66-62, by an aggregate score of 140-133.
After a big night in game 1 from American Maurice Collins, it was left to French point guard Rodrique Beaubois to steal the limelight in game 2. Beaubois was in superb form, shooting 20 points in 22 minutes of action. The talented guard had spent four years with the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA, but found himself plagued with injuries. However, his performance in game 2 has Strasbourg with one hand on the LNB trophy.
Coach Collet, a 2-time LNB Champion with both Le Mans and ASVEL, and 3-time Coach of the year in France has been the guiding light behind this team for the past 5 years, and deserves to lead his team to glory.
After the game the crowd of 6,168 sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Collet on the occasion of his 53rd birthday, something the coach enjoyed. “Everybody knows my age now. I could not be more discreet, “smiled Vincent Collet . He received birthday messages during the day, but merely replied: ‘Only my players can give me a gift.’ He added, “They answered, beyond the victory, there is the way. There has been a progression between the two games. And there, for thirty minutes, the match was conducted as we wanted to.”
